The New Horizons International website platform will look very familiar to those of you who have been part of New Horizons for years. It is based on DotNetNuke, or DNN, as was the previous website platform. However, there are several differences and changes from the installation that has just been decommissioned.
The previous website platform was installed on "Evoq", which is a commercially-modified version of DNN, and requires expensive licensing and support contracts. In addition, that install also incorporated a large number of 3rd-party premium modules, with many version dependencies. Because of that, the install was very challenging to upgrade to newer versions, and had fallen out of date.
The website platform you're working on now is the open source version of DNN, and was designed to use a minimum of 3rd party modules and dependencies. This should make it more flexible, and more practical to stay on top of required updates.
The site Theme is founded on Bootstrap 5, so Bootstrap helper classes and object types are available for advanced editing.
With this platform, we are striving for a different model of content production and editing. Previously, the majority of content was created in an HTML editor or through the placement and configuration of a host of 3rd party and custom modules, each operating in a different manner. One goal for this website was to provide a consistent and repeatable method of adding content to pages that resulted in content that was reliably formatted according to a specific theme. There are still many different "structures" for content available, but you will find them all using a similar workflow.
You will no doubt find that the set of Content Templates presented here is missing a content structure that you would like to have to show your specific style of content blocks. The beauty of the Structured Open Content Templates is that new ones can be developed very quickly, in a matter of hours. We expect the platform to grow to include many additional Templates as the need for them becomes clear.
